Online Data Science Programs in Idaho
University of Idaho
The Department of Statistical Science offers the Master of Science in Statistical Science. There are two versions of the program, either opting for one with a thesis or non-thesis. Up to six credits can count for the thesis, and a statistics internship can count for three to six credits in the program. Those looking to gain approval for an internship first need to complete three of the core courses in the program, and the work should be related to the profession the student is going after. An six-to-eight page internship summary is required after the experience.
Sample courses in the core curriculum include Sample Survey Methods, Probability Theory, and Mathematical Statistics. This program is offered in a fully online format through the Engineering Outreach Program. Based on course availability, there is an ability to switch from online to off-campus for students located in the proximity of the Boise and Coeur d'Alene centers. Courses are typically offered in asynchronous format with on-demand course materials, and there is constant communication between the students and faculty members.
An alternative option is completing a Graduate Data Analytics Certificate, which has a main focus on managing and interpreting various kinds of structured and unstructured data. Prerequisites needed before pursuing the certification includes prior coursework in statistical analysis and working with statistical programming software. Required courses in the curriculum are Statistical Learning and Predictive Modeling, Data Management for Big Data, and Data Science, and there numerous electives to complete the 12-credit hour certificate.
Brigham Young University-Idaho
