Recommended electives are all in statistics, but not limited to only this category -- 24 of the 30 credits must be statistics-based. Students must maintain a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Other Master's degrees that can be obtained through the PSU World Campus are in Geographic Information Systems and Professional Studies in Data Analytics (along with an optional Business Analytics focus). Graduate certificates in Applied Statistics and Business Analytics are also available, requiring 12 credits and 9 credits, respectively. A number of electives are available to customize the Applied Statistics certification, with subjects on SAS data management, R programming, sampling theory, and machine learning. The Business Analytics certificate has three required courses in business strategy, and predictive and prescriptive analytics.

Drexel University Online Masters in Data Science

Skills learned toward a profession in this field will include the ability to gather and analyze data, figuring out trends and how to run a company more efficiently. Instead of semesters, the program is split up into four 10-week quarters, which gives more flexibility for students to take more or less courses at these times. 45 total credits are needed to satisfy the degree, and along with core courses, the following concentrations are available: Analytics, Mining, and Algorithms; Visualization and Communication; and Management and Accountability.

In order to be admitted into the program, a Bachelor's degree is needed, and those that do not have one in a related field -- computer science or engineering, for example -- may need to take prerequisites before starting the program curriculum. Other documents that should be submitted are an application, official transcripts, a letter of recommendation, a 500-word statement of purpose, and a resume.

There are two different online graduate certificates that can also be obtained: Applied Data Science (ADS) and Computational Data Science (CDS). Each program requires 15 credits with the same two core courses: Data Acquisition and Pre-processing, and Data Analysis and Interpretation. The electives for ADS focus on retrieving, organizing, and visualization, while CDS is geared more toward artificial intelligence and machine learning.
