Merrimack College MS in Data Science Online

In as little as seven months, students can earn a Master of Science in Data Science online through a collaboration program between the School of Engineering and School of Business at Merrimack College. The degree requires eight courses and 32 credit hours to complete, and full-time students can finish the curriculum in just over a half year while part-time students can obtain it within 16 months. The following eight courses are required for all graduate students, which covers all the standard data science subjects and culminates with an eight-week capstone project.

Classes are distributed through live sessions and self-paced coursework without the need of being on campus. Admission requires a Bachelor's degree and some prerequisite courses in the data science field, completed with at least a B grade. The university recommends submitting an online application, college transcripts, resume, personal statement, and two letters of recommendation.

Bay Path University MS in Applied Data Science

Regardless of anyone's background in science and technology, Bay Path offers any graduate student a chance to succeed with a Master of Science in Applied Data Science. There are two tracks that students can choose from: a generalist track that provides all-around education in the field of data science for anybody, and a specialist track that contains a more in-depth curriculum on statistics and data mining.

12 total courses, each worth 3 credit hours, are required to satisfy the degree requirements. Along with the core courses and specific track selected, three electives will need to be completed: Time Series Analysis, Text Mining, Deep Learning, or any other graduate courses approved by the program director. Admission entry is every February and October. Popular job positions held after finishing the MSADS degree include data architect, data engineer, database administrator, and business analyst.

Harvard University edX Online Professional Certificate in Data Science

The HarvardX Data Science program offers a Professional Certificate in Data Science through the edX platform. R programming is the featured software and there are a number of eight-week courses that can be taken, such as visualization, probability, wrangling, and statistical inference and modeling. Learn to use tools such as RStudio, GitHub, and the Unix/Linux platform. All courses are free to enroll in, but payment is required for additional features and official credit.

Scholarship Opportunities within Massachusetts

A number of other universities have scholarship and fellowship opportunities for students to aid in tuition costs. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute provides graduate student assistantship does not lower tuition, but offers a stipend for those enrolled in any data science program. Those pursuing a PhD in data-driven research are eligible for a $34,000 stipend with full tuition and all fees paid for.

The Double Husky Scholarship at Northeastern University removes a quarter of the tuition for those enrolled in the Master of Science in Business Analytics program. This is only eligible for students that hold an undergraduate degree from the same university. Those looking into Harvard University for a Master's program, there are grants offered by the TH Chan School of Public Health that helps cover tuition and living expenses.
