Online Data Science Programs in Oklahoma
University of Oklahoma Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics
The Gallogly College of Engineering offers both a Graduate Certificate and Master of Science in Data Science and Analytics. Students have the option to complete these programs on-campus, online, or do a hybrid of both. For the full program, prerequisite courses are needed in calculus, linear algebra, and programming. There are two ways to complete the curriculum - the non-thesis version requires nine credit hours of electives on top of 20 credits worth of core courses, and four credit hours of professional practice. The thesis pathway requires six credit hours of research, three credit hours of electives, and one credit hour of professional practice.
A graduate certificate is mostly for students that are not eligible for the full Master's degree. The 15-credit curriculum includes core courses of Computing Structures, Database Management Systems, Fundamentals of Engineering Statistical Analysis, Intelligent Data Analytics, and Advanced Analytics and Metaheuristics. Up to nine credit hours of electives are needed to finish the program.
In order to be administered into either program, prospective students must hold a Bachelor's degree with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and submit all official transcripts, statement of purpose, resume, and three letters of recommendation. Undergraduates can elect to complete an accelerated pathway to get the MSDSA degree with up to 15 percent of shared courses that count toward both Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
Oklahoma State University Master of Science in Business Analytics and Data Science
The Spears School of Business has a Master of Science in Business Analytics and Data Science that can be completed online for flexibility or on-campus for full-time students. A large portion of the coursework centers around the experience of analytical and programming software, such as SAS (who has a partnership with the school for this program), Tableau, Python, and R. The online version requires 33 credits to complete the degree. Elective specializations are in Marketing Analytics, Advanced Data Science, Health Analytics, or Cybersecurity Analytics, each holding six credit hours of required courses and six credit hours of elective options.
An alternative to completing the full program is getting an online graduate certificate in Business Data Mining, Marketing Analytics, or Health Analytics. Each of these certificates will take between one to two years to complete. Coursework credit can be used toward the MSBADS program if approved by a program director. 90 percent of graduates between 2017-19 have received job offers within three months of graduation.
Southwestern Oklahoma State MS in Health Information Management
The School of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences provides the Master of Science in Health Information Management program, exclusive to the state of Oklahoma nd is completed fully online. The curriculum is built along the standards set by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). 36 credit hours are needed to complete the degree, separated into 30 credits of coursework and six credits toward the thesis or capstone project.
Example courses in the curriculum include Corporate Compliance and Quality Data Management, Legal and Privacy Issues in Health Informatics, and Healthcare Decision Support Systems. A GPA of 3.0 or higher is needed to complete the degree.
