University of Kansas Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Analytics
The Edwards Campus has three options for graduate students in the field of data analytics that can be fully obtained online. There is a Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Analytics with the following areas of emphasis: Statistics, Analytics, and Data Science. 30 credit hours are required to complete the degree. The core curriculum regardless of concentration consist of the following courses: Professionalism, Ethics, and Leadership in the Statistical Sciences; Categorical Data Analysis; Linear Regression; and Multivariate Statistics. The online program is asynchronous and offers virtual interaction with other students and faculty when available.
As a quicker alternative, there are two Graduate Certificates in Applied Statistics and Applied Data Science. These are truncated programs that require half the credit hours needed in the Master's degree. both of them require an introductory class in R and SAS programming, and linear regression. Both certificates can be completed within a year if the student takes two courses in the fall and spring semesters and one in the summer.
Emporia State University Master of Science in Informatics
The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies offers a Master of Science in Informatics that can be completed online within two years. A degree in informatics prepares graduates to analyze structured and/or unstructured data and become familiar with various programming tools. There are two concentrations that students can choose from: Quantitative Economics and Geoinformatics. In order to be accepted into the program, students should hold a Bachelor's degree in a related field with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA and submit two letters of recommendation, resume, and statement of objectives. The online university offers a Master of Science in Business Intelligence. After completing the program, students will be able to analyze data for forecasting and optimizing the businesses they work for. They will understand ethical and legal regulations, compare and contrast a variety of solutions, and create progress reports for shareholders. The 36-credit curriculum includes courses such as Decision Support and Intelligent Systems, Business Performance Management, Organizational Behavior, and it culminates with a capstone project where students will showcase what they have learned in the program.
